In September, the dollar's share in international settlements through the SWIFT system fell below 50%. The indicator decreased by 2.46 percentage points compared to August and amounted to 49.63%. This happened for the first time since February 2026, when the share was 49.25%.

In August, the dollar's share reached 52.09%, which became the maximum at least since the beginning of 2024. In previous months, only in September 2024 was there a drop of more than 2 p.p. A year earlier, in September 2025, the dollar accounted for 47.79% of settlements.

If payments within the eurozone are excluded, the decline was less significant: the share decreased by 1.04 p.p. — from 59.87% to 58.83%.

The other currencies from the top six maintained their positions. The euro remained in second place with growth from 21.37% to 21.69%. The British pound rose to 6.89% and took third place. The Japanese yen retained the fourth position, despite a slight decrease. The Chinese yuan rose to 3.33%, which became the maximum since April 2025.

The share of one of the currencies grew the most over the month — from 0.4% to 1.31%, which allowed it to rise from 13th to 9th place. Another currency moved from 18th to 11th place, increasing its share from 0.28% to 0.83%.
